Party City is closing its State College area location, according to signs posted in the store’s windows.

The national party and holiday supply store chain’s location at 319 Benner Pike in College Township is holding a storewide closing sale, with discounts of up to 60%.

An employee said the store did not have information about a final closing date. Party City media relations did not respond to an inquiry about the reason for the closing or when the Benner Pike Shops store’s final date of business would be.

Party City filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in January 2023 following financial pressures dating back to 2019, including a helium shortage that affected its balloon business, COVID-19 impacts and supply chain issues. After restructuring, the company emerged from bankruptcy in October 2023 having eliminated $1 billion in debt and closing only about three dozen of its more than 800 stores. The shuttered locations were described by the company as “less productive stores.”

The State College Party City was previously located at 303 Benner Pike, next to the Penn State Medical Group, before moving nearby to its current location in 2018.

The store’s current hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Wednesday; 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday; 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday; 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday; and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
